The split matters more than the total

Ten nights across two camps and a beach beats ten nights across four camps, every time.

Splits that work
TotalThe splitWhat it gives you
7 nights4 bush + 3 beach, or 6 bushTight but real. One country, one or two camps, no third.
10 nights6 bush + 4 beachThe most common honeymoon we plan. Two camps, then the coast.
12 nights4 + 4 bush + 4 beachTwo contrasting safari areas, say a conservancy and a desert, then the sea.
14 nights3 + 4 + 3 bush + 4 beachRoom for gorillas, or a second country, without rushing anything.

The rule that matters: three nights per camp

Two nights at a camp is really one full day. You arrive in the afternoon, you have one proper day, and you leave after the morning drive. The guide never learns what interests you and the place never stops being unfamiliar.

Three nights is two full days, and the second one is reliably better than the first — you know the ground, the guide knows you, and you have stopped taking photographs of the first zebra.

What a move actually costs

A move between camps costs you the morning drive, the packing, the transfer to the airstrip, the flight, the transfer at the other end, and the afternoon settling in. Call it most of a day, and a small amount of stress.

On a ten-night honeymoon, three camps means three of those. Two camps means one. That is a real difference in how the fortnight feels.

If you only have seven nights

Do not try to see two countries. Pick one, take two camps at most, and spend the saved days on the ground rather than in transit.

Six bush nights in one country with a private vehicle will be a better honeymoon than seven nights spread across Kenya and Tanzania, and it will cost less.

If you have fourteen

This is where a second country starts to make sense — most often gorillas added to a plains-game trip, because the two are genuinely different rather than more of the same.

It is also enough for three safari areas and a beach, though we would still argue for four nights somewhere rather than a fourth camp.
